USDA Inspected Meat Processing in North Texas

Windthorst Custom Meat Company is a USDA inspected meat processing facility located in Windthorst, Texas, in Archer County. We provide USDA inspected processing for beef, pork, lamb, and goat for ranchers, livestock producers, and meat businesses throughout our North Texas and Southern Oklahoma service area.

Whether you're processing a single animal or livestock for a direct to consumer meat business, our USDA program provides the federal inspection required for meat entering commerce. Our procedures follow USDA requirements for sanitation, inspection, traceability, and livestock handling throughout the processing process.

What USDA Inspection Means for You

Federally Inspected: USDA inspection is conducted as required during slaughter and processing operations to verify that livestock and meat products meet applicable federal requirements.

Meat for Resale: USDA inspected processing allows qualifying meat products to be sold directly to consumers, at farmers markets, through retail stores and through other approved sales channels when applicable labeling and other requirements are met.

Interstate Sales: Federally inspected meat can generally enter interstate commerce, allowing producers to build markets beyond Texas when applicable USDA labeling, handling, and other regulatory requirements are satisfied.

USDA Labeling: Meat intended for sale must meet applicable USDA labeling requirements. We'll work with you through the processing and packaging options available for your products.

Custom Processing vs. USDA Inspected Processing

Windthorst Custom Meat Company offers both custom exempt and USDA inspected meat processing.

Custom exempt processing is generally intended for livestock being processed for the owner and other qualifying noncommercial uses. Meat processed under custom exemption is marked “Not for Sale” and cannot be sold as retail meat.

If you're raising livestock to sell meat directly to consumers, stores or other buyers, you'll generally need inspected processing that allows the finished meat to enter commerce.
